Whether you are a curious novice or an enlightened amateur, this glossary is designed to help you master the specific vocabulary of our profession.

Provisions
Amount which is invoiced and collected upon signature of the project and which will be returned at the end of the mission, less invoices due.
Document composed of visuals allowing us to learn about your tastes and needs. This document is followed by a debrief meeting. It is essential to the success of the project because it is the working basis which allows us to identify your desires in terms of style.
Refers to a two-dimensional graphic representation of the view of a wall or an interior facade of a space. It shows the arrangement of elements on a vertical plane, such as:
  • Doors and windows,
  • Built-in furniture (cupboards, shelves, etc.),
  • Electrical connections, switches and sockets.
Elevations provide a clear view of the proportions and details of a space, facilitating communication between the architect and client.

The preliminary design is a key stage of the design process which consists of defining the broad outlines of a project before its final realization. We present the project via a virtual tour of the site and present the following documents:

  • Preliminary plans:
    – Interior layout plans (distribution of spaces).
    – Furniture plan and layout of decorative elements.
  • Material and color selections:
    – Proposals for color palettes, coverings (floors, walls, ceilings)
  • Visualizations:
    – 3D perspectives

At the end of the presentation of the Preliminary Project, a phase of reflection is necessary to mature the proposals, take a step back and be able to respond to these first proposals.

  • Detailed plans and elevations: Accurate representation of spaces, including dimensions, furniture, lighting, and finishes.
  • Technical plans
  • Selection of materials and decorative details: References of materials, textures, colors, furniture, lighting with layout plan
  • Visualization: numerous 3D views and a virtual tour of the location are presented during this meeting
  • Work quote
Document (summarizing the elements of the final project) which serves as a working basis for the development of the work estimate.
Assistance to the Project Owner for the management of weekly site monitoring meetings. On-site visits, verification of work specifications, compliance with instructions, compliance with the schedule. A report is sent every week.
Site acceptance is a key stage marking the end of construction or renovation work. This is the moment when the client (client) and the project manager (architect or construction company) come together to verify that the work has been carried out in accordance with the contract and that it meets the defined quality requirements. Site acceptance formalizes the delivery of the project and triggers the legal guarantees.

Ten-year insurance, also calledten-year guarantee, is compulsory insurance for all building professionals, including interior designers, as long as they participate in project management and are responsible for work affecting the structure of the building.

It covers damage which compromises the solidity of the work or renders it unfit for its intended purpose for a period of10 yearsfrom receipt of the work.

Even if interior designers do not carry out the work themselves, they can be held liable as project managers.

Remuneration of the interior designer, does not include the cost of the work

The Works Study Office (BET) is an entity specialized in the design, technical analysis and monitoring of the execution of works in the field of building and construction.

It can work in various technical fields such as architecture, structural engineering, electricity, plumbing, air conditioning, thermal, acoustics, or even renewable energies.

He produces calculation notes and has the role of controlling the conformity of the work in relation to the plans and standards.

Intent plan:

A plan of intent is a preliminary document that presents the project outline, design ideas, and aesthetic directions. It serves as a discussion support between the architect, the client and the stakeholders to validate the general concept before entering into technical details.

Execution plan:

An execution plan is produced by the company which will carry out the implementation.
It is a precise technical document which details all the information necessary for the implementation of the project on the site. It includes precise dimensions, materials, technical specifications, and assembly instructions.
